Recipiente 121. Grave 229. Cemetery of La Noria

Funerary urn (kalathos and dish) from the grave 229, burial mound E, of the Iberian cemetery of La Noria (Fuente de Piedra, Málaga, Spain). The vessel is decorated with red bands and black vertical and horizontal lines. The red color was manufactured with hematite. The black color was made using a non well defined manganese oxide: hausmannite (Mn2O4) and/or bixbyite (Mn2O3) according to the MRS analysis. Both oxides are the result of the transformation of pyrolusite when firing temperature is set above 450ºC and below 900ºC.
